“Prepare to curate a bedroom that feels calming and comforting in style with these wellness-led items that relax your space.” - Amiya Baratan, Livingetc.

"These lamps are designed to support your body’s natural circadian rhythm by using warm, non-blue light tones in the evening," says Max McKenzie, co-founder of Yinteriors. "They help signal to the brain that it’s time to unwind, reducing overstimulation from harsh artificial light. This creates a calmer, more soothing atmosphere as you wind down for sleep.”

  1. A Himalayan salt lamp

Soft, amber light helps reduce overstimulation before sleep, while the salt itself is said to neutralise airborne pollutants. Whether or not you believe in the science, the gentle glow creates a cocooning, spa-like effect that instantly calms the senses.

2. A scent diffuser with calming essential oils

Aromatherapy is a proven way to ease stress and support sleep. Go for essential oils like lavender, chamomile or neroli, or choose a grounding blend with vetiver or cedarwood. Use a cool mist diffuser or a natural room spray before bed to create a wind-down ritual.

3. A MagHealy or frequency-based device

These next-gen wellness tools emit low-level pulsed magnetic fields or sound frequencies (like solfeggio tones) to calm the nervous system and promote deeper rest. Use it as part of a digital detox before bed, it’s a modern-day upgrade on ‘no screens before sleep’.

4. Calming crystals for emotional balance

If you prefer a more traditional energy tool, try placing calming crystals near your bed or under your pillow. Amethyst is known for promoting sleep and easing anxiety; lepidolite contains natural lithium and helps settle racing thoughts; rose quartz brings emotional softness and security. A small piece of Howlite under the pillow or in the pillowcase provides a restful sleep. Choose one that resonates with you and let it become part of your bedtime ritual.

5. A grounding or EMF-shielding bed sheet

Designed to replicate the calming effects of being in contact with the earth (known as “earthing”), grounding sheets are woven with conductive silver threads to help regulate circadian rhythms and reduce inflammation.

6. A ‘no-tech tray’ or unplug box

Place your phone, smartwatch, and other devices in a designated box or tray before sleep. Creating a physical boundary between your bed and your tech is one of the most effective ways to reduce mental clutter and stimulate melatonin production.

7. A sound bowl or tuning fork

Using sound at specific frequencies can help shift brainwaves from alert to relaxed. A quick chime of a tuning fork or crystal singing bowl before bed becomes a meditative cue and even a few seconds of sound can signal the body to soften.

8. A silk sleep mask infused with aromatherapy or heat

A double win: total darkness and calming scent. Some masks include removable pads infused with essential oils or herbs, while others can be gently warmed for deeper relaxation.

9. A daylight-mimicking lamp like Lumie

These lamps are designed to support your body’s natural circadian rhythm by using warm, non-blue light tones in the evening. They help signal to the brain that it’s time to unwind, reducing overstimulation from harsh artificial light. This creates a calmer, more soothing atmosphere as you wind down for sleep.

10. Choosing Plants

In Feng Shui plants are indoor plants believed to attract good energy, prosperity, and well-being to a space. For the bedroom air-purifying plants promote rest and positive energy, good choices include the Snake Plant for its air-purifying qualities, and the Aloe Vera for cleansing negative vibes.

11. Choosing Bedding

Natural, breathable materials to keep you warm / cool - depending on your needs. If you get warm at night, avoid synthetic materials for your duvet cover and sheets – opt for 100% cotton or a cotton-linen mix. For warmth, add a 100% wool or wool-cotton mix blanket over cotton covers.

12. Choosing Colours

Colour (on the walls and key items including bedding, artwork, rugs, furniture) - soft pinks to physically sooth you and calm the body, and soft pale blues to calm the mind. For earthier colours, muted greens will have a balancing effect and soft browns will ground you - choosing exactly the right variation of these colours will be down to your personal preferences (which will be discovered through your bespoke colour consultation).

When choosing paint, using no or very low VOC paint means you can breathe easily at night.
