“Which Psychological Colour Season Are You? And How Should It Affect Your Home?”

Yinteriors on Colour Psychology and how it applies to your home

In colour psychology, there’s a ‘right’ yellow for everyone.

‘Getting your colours done’ was big in the 80s and 90s, it’s good to see it make a comeback. What this means is the colours people wear won’t just suit their skin tone and eye colour, but their personality.

In the home, it’s the same thing – your colour palette is season-based. If you’re ‘an Autumn’ for clothes, you’ll be ‘an Autumn’ for your colour palette at home too.

This new trend in fashion is really going to help people understand colour psychology and how this same principle translates from the clothes they wear to their home interiors.

“With so many different interiors trends to choose from, it can be easy for your own personal tastes to get lost among the noise. ‘One of the most important relationships you will ever have is with your home,’ says Broadribb (co-founder of Yinteriors), ‘so people want to invest in their homes, and they do not want to be decorating every 18 months to keep up with trends. The way to achieve this is to create something that is deeply personal to you - something that you won’t get bored of within a year or regret because it’s not really you.”

In interiors and homeware, this year you’ve seen an influx of ‘Autumn’ shades for furniture and interior accessories in stores, online, on Instagram and on Pinterest. Prior to that, we had a very ‘spring’ vibe with lots of clear, vibrant colours – a big part of creating the maximalist aesthetic. Ten years ago or so, the ‘winter’ palette was predominant during the minimalist movement, a lot of monochrome and chrome. The long-standing grey trend (thank goodness that’s over) spanned the summer and winter palettes, depending on whether we’re talking a hazy grey or a stark grey.

Regardless of your personal season, you’ll still find everything you want to find on the market, but the rich earthy browns, ochres, burgundy and olive greens of the Autumn palette are what you’ll see everywhere now.
